The search has begun to find
ICM Miss London and Miss Hippodrome 2014!
Floods of young women from across London have submitted their applications with aspirations to become the lady to represent the World’s finest City and casino in this year’s Miss England final.
With previous winners including, ITV’s, I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here beauty, Amy Willerton, there are high hopes this will be the year London brings home that coveted crown.
Shoaib Abedi, Director at ICM Capital said: “We are proud to be exclusive sponsors of ICM Miss London and Miss Hippodrome 2014 taking place in one of the leading global cities for business, education and culture. It is important to us, as an international organisation, to support universal charities and non-profit organisations. Miss London’s organisers have in recent years raised over 25,000 GBP for the Beauty with a Purpose charity, a cause which dates back to 1972, and we’re looking to increase that figure dramatically this year.”
Organiser of the regional heat, Fay Hill said, “ICM Miss London and Miss Hippodrome 2014 promises to be a night full of glamour and excitement as twenty-five of the City’s finest women go head-to-head for the ultimate in beauty pageant titles. I am delighted to be working with many prestigious and well-respected industry professionals including our presenter for the evening, The Cosmedic Coach, Antonia Mariconda and former Mrs Russia and now Mentor to our ladies, Marinika Smirnova. This will be my fourth year of organising the event and I know with ICM Capital’s support, it’s going to be the best yet!”

In an industry full of egos, it’s vital one is always aware of the way they portray themselves.
Lately I have noticed a significant increase of arrogant Models and Photographers that openly rant on social networking sites about competitors in the industry. Personally, I find it not only unprofessional, but also cringe worthy. If people feel the need to take to a public domain to criticise someone else it almost reflects some sort of insecurity. For more on this subject though, read my blog https://ukmodelfolios.wordpress.com/2012/05/30/imitation-is-the-sincerest-form-of-flattery/
My otherwise main purpose for this post is to reinstate that, the photography industry is a business, not a charity. I’m becoming increasingly tired of receiving ‘stuck-up’ emails from models who despite asking US to shoot their portfolios, take umbrage to receiving a price list. There is apparently a false rumour going around that since a model is paid to do a photoshoot, they shouldn’t have to pay for a photoshoot. WRONG! If a client books a model for a job, they should pay; the terms of payment can be negotiated by the Model’s Agent or by the model directly. However, if a model wants to shoot with a specific Photographer because they want to have that Photographer’s images in their book, then expect to pay. Excluding even the Photographer’s time, there are basic costs involved with any photoshoot such as hair and make-up, for example. If a Photographer chooses to cover these costs that’s their prerogative but if they ask the model to pay and contribute towards these cost then so be it. Personally I feel if a model is offended by this then they need to get back down to Earth, and quickly.
From my perspective, UK Model Folios is an agency offering some of the finest photography services the model portfolio industry has to offer. I am therefore offended that models do not understand why they should have to pay our Photographers for their work.
When models and photographers are starting out they may arrange a test shoot to benefit both their books, for example and if pre-agreed then both may say neither has to actually pay any money.
Briefly, the same message has to go out to agencies who for some reason assume because they are a top agency, Photographers should work for cheap. Again, unless it is of any benefit for Photographers to photograph an agency’s models, agencies should be expected to pay the going rate for that Photographer and any additional crew.
And for those who still don’t get it- maybe this picture will help you understand?
As you may or may not be aware, Amy Willerton is more than just a model to us, she’s part of our UK Model Folios family. We are so proud of how she has conducted herself in the jungle thus far, despite being a victim of some clear mistreatment by other camp Members.
We met Amy through sponsoring the Miss London beauty pageant (regional heat for Miss England and Miss World). We spotted from the offset she had that certain something; the ‘X-Factor’ if you will, and we were right.
Travelling to Thailand with Amy after she won a photoshoot with us and Alan Strutt to shoot there was a real highlight. It was on those stunning beaches we shot her debut calendar and spent time really getting to know the real Amy.
Here’s some of our highlights! #TeamAmy x
We are very excited to welcome on board another fabulous female photographer

Always a pleasure, never a chore. That is indeed our motto when it comes to work, particularly when one is fortunate enough to be commissioned to join Alan Strutt and Samantha Womack on a photoshoot for Hello! Magazine in Portugal’s hidden Heaven- Juicy Oasis. Home and baby of the iconic juice master, Jason Vale, take a look at the behind-the-scenes video we shot of the stunning photoshoot and for the full images and interview pick up this week’s Hello!
It is common, particularly for newbie or amateur models to come and visit us at UK MODEL FOLIOS with an established look. The most difficult thing for them is to allow us to take over and create something different that says, ‘model’ and usually means stepping away completely from what they have been used to creating themselves.
Think of it as Tyra Banks in ANTM- everyone loves the makeover episode, right? And the truth is, how many times have you ever looked at the makeovers and thought Tyra was wrong? Exactly, never!
Our favourite recent makeover was for model Claire Leeson AKA Kymberly Fox. Half Mexican, half St Lucian mix, she has stunning natural features but much to Claire’s dismay short hair.
Claire arrived with an array of 18″ plus extensions and wigs convincing us they look great on her because they are natural hair. And don’t get us wrong, from the pictures Claire had sent of her alter-ego Kymberly, Kym does look fab in the wigs- but what about Claire? Claire clearly was missing how beautiful she was and as a result, had been hiding behind the wigs and huge eyelashes. Her icon is Kim Kardashian and though she didn’t want to be seen as a Kim wannabe, she was subconsciously mimicing her and in the process, overriding her own attributes.
Luckily, Claire is one of the sweetest souls and was totally up for us using her natural beauty to create somewhat of a transformation for our lens. It was so great to have her leave not only smiling ear-to-ear because of her fabulous shots but also to hear her say, how much she loves her new look and is going to rock all the different styles we showed her she can create with her gorgeous, edgy fro.
Check out some of our fab shots!
