Hi Fay! Tell us, what was it like being asked to go and be a guest judge at the EM Magazine event?
It was great and a real honour. I loved meeting all of the lovely ladies and working on the panel with the other judges, plus it was a brilliant opportunity for me to get UK Model Folios and Celebrity Publicity out there.
Have you been a judge at any other events before?
Yes, I judged Miss Maxim 2007.
As a judge what were you looking for in the girls that had entered the competition?
The winner of Miss Every Model goes through to represent the magazine in the Miss England final with of course potential to be the next Miss England. This year Miss England are looking for a lady with strong model potential so this was one of the key factors I was looking for. After that I judged the ladies a lot on how they came across personality-wise not just vocally, but how sincere they seemed. Miss England is a very important role and as a representative of our country she needs to be likeable and intellgent.
Were you nervous about what to wear?
A little because like all of these events you never know what people are going to wear. Luckily I had a pre-consultation email with the lovely E M magazine editor, Ruth Deane who gave me some ideas!
The UK Model Folios advert on the back of Every Model Magazine is lovely, were you happy when you saw it up close?
So happy! The quality of the magazine is beautiful, which fortunately showed the advert off to its fullest potential. Callum was in the audience and spotted it first and started randomly showing people *laughs* Before we left he left he strategically placed the magazines on to the advert page so people would see it! *Laughs again*
What three things stand out most for you in a model?
Facial beauty, body and hair.
Do you think that entering competitions can help girls further their career?
Dependent upon which competition it is, yes. Some model competitions are a complete rip odd but others such as Miss England I believe are great opportunities and very beneficial for models.
As someone who has worked closely with a lot of successful models what stood out about them?
The obvious is their physical appeal and their ability to move for the camera, but after that it’s how easy they were to work with. Once I meet a model I never tend to focus on how beautiful she was, but more if she was nice. Classic statements are: “I met such and such; what a nightmare!” Or “Oh, she was so lovely and ridiculously beautiful!”
Will you be running any competitions through UK Model Folios?
Yes, we already run several via other big name brands. Currently we’re offering a monthly portfolio prize to the models of Candy Crib, a once in a lifetime calendar trip to Thailand and a portfolio package to the winner of Miss England.
What do you think makes a competition successful and worth entering?
If the prize is beneficial to you. We try to make all of our prizes worthwhile to the person winning them i.e. a model portfolio for a model is a fabulous prize and will help them by saving money and bagging a dream campaign.
What other events have you been to recently?
Recently I’ve been to a WAGS event to raise money for South Africa and UK Model Folios donated a prize; I had more of a social catch-up with my friends at Fox Media, IGN where they rented a bar to watch England – luckily we won that day and the bar was free; 90 degrees outside – London town = good times. Also, I’ve been getting involved with the St Matthews Academy in South East London, which is a business and enterprise school. I attended an evening there to talk to pupils about furthering your career and improving entrepreneurial skills.
Are you looking forward to shooting the next cover page for EM Magazine?
Definitely. I love to shoot different styles, particularly fashion and commercial because I find it more challenging. Kayleigh, the model is stunning too so it should be a great day!
Last week we were lucky enough to have the first round winner of the calendar girl 2011 competiton, Evangeline Miller all to ourselves for a whole afternoon. Ironically the gorgeous lass had already booked a portfolio shoot with our fabulous Julia Underwood and was ecstatic when Julia agreed to shoot her prize winning photoshoot for July’s issue of Feature Girl too.
When Evie originally approached UK Model Folios to book a shoot, we showed her all of our photographers that we believed best fit her requirements. As she had already shot with a couple of them, including the phenomenal Joby Rawlins, she decided to take on a whole new modelling challenge and conquer the edgy look- step forward Miss Julia Underwood. As many of you will already know, Julia is the next big thing. Not only does she shoot regularly for lad’s editorials, Front and ZOO but she is also a hit in Denmark particularly with M! Magazine. After a quick peek at Julia’s work, Evie was booking a shoot quicker than you can say, “UKMF” and the rest is… well below…
After a quick cup of tea and a catch-up with the team, Evangeline sat down ready to be pampered by our fabulous in-house Hair and Make-Up Artist, Kayla Silvester. The two ladies had a consultation to discuss Evie’s look and what concepts they wanted to achieve. In the mean time, our star stylist, Coco Minnie began raiding through the piles of beautiful clothes that Evangeline had brought with her to compile her looks. As Evangeline’s overall requirement for the style of her shoot was ‘Front-esque’, Coco Minnie picked out outfits to match the criteria. The first look was a cute denim crop top and a pair of vintage sport’s shorts set against a white wall. The emphasis was purely on Evie and she set the photoshoot on fire immediately with her hot to trot model tactics.
It’s always a good idea to bring a lot of outfit options with you for variety, but once you’re on location make sure to pick out key items and avoid using too many accessories.
Being on a shoot can often be very nerve-wracking at the beginning; especially if you’re modelling! This is why we always recommend (particularly if you’re interested in having some glamour shots done) that you gradually work your way down to lingerie and/ or topless shots because not only will you feel more comfortable, but you will also have become accustomed to the photographer and crew, and feel at ease around them.
“The great thing about working with UK Model Folios and Julia is their ability to make you feel so comfortable. They’re also such experts in photoshoots and model tuition that the directions they give you from styling, hair and make-up, to modelling, just work.”
Fay Bacon always stresses the importance of the five main portfolio shots to models. She carefully selects outfits, explaining to the model the relevance for each and how they’ll work with the shot. She believes it’s a waste of money if a client walks away from a shoot without at least three-five decent images for their folio that can work toward bagging them that job.
The five most important shots:
- Full-Length Shot
- Half-Body Shot
- Laying-Down Shot
- From Behind shot
As the shoot progressed Evangeline became evermore confident and started posing for her lingerie and implied topless shots. Evangeline hasn’t done any topless modelling as of yet, but as a very clever tactic has agreed to bare all in Thailand for her fans, if she wins the RedHotGlamourGirls Competition. So if thats not a reason to vote for her then we don’t know what is?!
Seven outfits later, it was time for Julia to shoot Evie’s Feature Girl spread. UKMF’s Fay Bacon is also the Editor of Feature Girl and had already planned a concept for the shoot. Set against a flourescent pink wall, Fay teamed a simple purple thong with sexy stiletos and Evie posed away. At the end Fay interviewed Evie, quizzing her on how it felt to win the first round, her life as a model and what winning the 2011 calendar competition in Thailand would mean to her. To read the answers check out this month’s Feature Girl now!
So as you may already know, the first round of the RedHotGlamourGirls competition has just ended and the lovely Evangeline Miller was in first place. Never fear though there is still time to not only vote for your favourite girl to win but also join the competition yourself!
We have also given the girls the chance to upload videos of themselves onto the RHG youtube account. To watch the beautiful ladies tell you why they think they should win simply go to our RHG YouTube.
As many of you will already know, UK Model Folios have teamed up with Red Hot Glamour Girls to offer girls a celebrity style 2011 calendar shoot in the beautiful Thailand with our legendary photographer, Alan Strutt. And that’s not all; each month the top three girls go through to the next round, with the highest voted model bagging a portfolio shoot with UK Model Folios and her own feature in Red Hot Glamour’s fabulous online magazine, Feature Girl. All three girls will also feature in the Red Hot Glamour Girls 2011 calendar! But don’t worry, although the first month’s voting is now up, there is still an opportunity for more gorgeous ladies to jump on board, so what are you waiting for? Click here to enter.
Here’s a few things we’ve learned from this month’s voting:
- Do not be put off by competing models that are as gorgeous as you: This competition is solely based on your promotional tactics and convincing your adoring fans to vote for you. We, at UKMF are more than happy to give you pointers and feedback on how you’re doing to help you on your way, but ultimately it’s up to you, so how much do you want to win? That’s the question.
- Do not be embarrassed to ask your fans to vote: Fans love you because you’re you. They want to make you happy and of course it goes without saying, if you win this competition you’ll be the happiest girl alive, so don’t be afraid to ask people to vote!
- Do not worry about the impact you updating your social networking profiles has on your ‘friends’: We’ve discovered the majority of votes come from these exact sites e.g. Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Models were worried if they updated their profiles too much with statuses encouraging people to vote then they would get fed up! We say, it’s your profile and if you want to win then that’s what you should be shouting about! Put it this way, if fans do get fed-up then maybe it will work in your advantage and they’ll vote just to shut you up *haha*
As for this month, if you’re stuck with who to vote for then here is a little message from some of the girls:
“My name is Brooke Lavinia and I’ve been modelling since I was 13-years-old. I’m from Newcastle and I love meeting people and socialising. I’m at college training to be a nurse but I have one aim in my life: to be a top glamour model.“
“I’m an ex fashion student, my measurements are: 32,22,32. I love animals and I’m a member of PETA. My favourtie things are: money, stiletos, Paris and Tea (I drink 12 cups a day!) Love Evangeline Miller.”
“I’m at my happiest when the sun is shining and I’m surrounded by my friends with a nice cold beverage. I enjoy going out for a rave up with my pals and I have a massive love of marmite and drink too much tea! Love Rachael Clubb”
“Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Arnold. I’m a shopaholic, party girl, and I love dancing and singing when I’m drunk!”
“I’m a fun lively girl who’s constantly being crazy! I also have brains so I’m currently studying my AAT (accounts exams) at college. I LOVE partying and enjoying life to the MAX. Love Naomi White”
